Constitutional referendum ends in Azerbaijan
Polling stations closed across Azerbaijan at 19.00 local time on Monday, September 26, as the country`s citizens voted in a referendum to make amendments to the Constitution. High turnout was registered in the referendum, which was conducted in 125 constituencies in 5,627 polling stations, of which 5,415 were permanent and 212 temporary. The number of eligible voters in the country is 5,276,111.
PACE: Referendum in Azerbaijan transparent, smooth
The referendum to amend the Azerbaijani Constitution was organized in line with national legislation, Aleksandar Nikoloski, head of the Referendum Assessment Mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), said at a press conference in Baku Sept. 27.

Azerbaijan, at UN Assembly, calls for worldwide mutual respect to achieve development goals

Mounting the podium of the United Nations General Assembly, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov stressed the critical importance of enhancing better understanding among diverse communities and encouraging mutual respect in order to achieve the ambitious Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of Agenda 2030. “Unresolved armed conflicts, terrorism, violent extremism, aggressive separatism, intolerance and discrimination on ethnic and religious grounds continue to represent the most serious challenges and are among the main obstacles to development,” he told the Assembly at its annual general debate.

“Azerbaijan has initiated variety of significant energy projects of regional importance which in its turn established reliable and sustainable infrastructure in the BSEC area. Azerbaijan is and will remain committed to further development of energy cooperation in the region by realization of Southern Gas Corridor (SGC), a unique project which involves six BSEC Member States. Construction of Trans-Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) as one of its components is ongoing. This May the groundbreaking ceremony of another component of the SGC - Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) was successfully held in Thessaloniki” said Azerbaijani FM in his statement at the Informal Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the BSEC Member States in New York.
FM: Occupation of Azerbaijani territories – obstacle to economic growth
“The ongoing military occupation of the Azerbaijani territories by Armenia still remains as a major source of instability and impediment to the economic development. The withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani territories and ensuring the return of the refugees and internally displaced persons to their homes will not only contribute to peace and security in the South Caucasus, but also enhance full-fledged intra-regional cooperation” said Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov at the extraordinary session of Council of Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization member states in New York, US.

“Located at the crossroad of East-West and North-South international transport corridors, Azerbaijan has managed to become a pioneer in the region in initiating and enabling a number of strategic trans-regional transport, ICT and energy projects such as Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway link, the new Baku International Sea Trade Port, Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway and Southern Gas Corridor, consisting of Trans Adriatic Pipeline, Trans Anatolian Pipeline and South Caucasus Pipeline. Due to its advantageous geostrategic location, strong transit potential and serving as the economically efficient and shortest route for connecting Europe and Asia, Azerbaijan continues to contribute to the inter and intra-regional trade and overall sustainable development of the Eurasia region by offering multitude of favorable transport opportunities” said Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov at the 15th annual ministerial meeting of the group of the landlocked developing countries on the theme of “Harnessing coherence in the implementation of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development and Vienna Programme of Action”.
